Kurt L. Maggio, M.D.

Dr. Maggio, our President and CEO, started Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa in summer 2012, having retired from a career in military medicine spanning three decades. He served as a faculty researcher and physician in the country’s third largest dermatology residency training program for 15 of those years. He loves to teach and learn. Colonel Maggio is a combat veteran who has practiced dermatology all over the world but regards Virginia as his home, where he met his wife 35 years ago. They raised their five children in the Commonwealth and have 6 grandsons. He enjoys running, hiking, swimming and gardening.

Dr. Maggio specializes in the surgical treatment of skin cancer, as he is both fellowship trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and board certified in Dermatology. As a procedural dermatologist he also has advanced training in laser and cosmetic dermatology. He looks forward to applying his skills to address your skin problems and concerns with the dignity and respect you deserve. 

Rolla Jaber, M.D.

Doctor JaberDr. Jaber is Dr. Maggio's business partner and Chief Medical Officer. She is a board certified dermatologist and has been practicing in the Northern Virginia area since 2008. She did her undergraduate education at the College of William and Mary where she achieved the highest honors of membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and then started medical school at The University of Virginia, earning membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her dermatology training in Michigan, where she served as Chief Resident in her senior year of residency, after which she returned to practice medicine in Virginia.

Dr. Jaber specializes in a broad range of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic services. Her areas of interests include skin cancer screening and treatment, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and rejuvenation of aging skin. She strives to provide comprehensive and up to date medical care with the utmost respect and compassion towards her patients.

She met and married her husband of 20 years while in medical school. They lead an active and busy life raising and spending time with their three young children. She also enjoys kickboxing, soccer, reading, and traveling.

John W. Brady, M.D.

Dr. Brady is certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has been honored by his colleagues as one of Washingtonian Magazines Top Doctors consistently since its inception. Dr. Brady went to medical school at George Washington University and completed his residency in Dermatology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He has enjoyed providing general medical and surgical dermatology to patients of all ages since 1977.

The Bradys are members of the Manassas Church of Christ. In addition to his love for God, family, and medicine, his other interests include the Washington Football Team, steam trains, and gardening.

Reena Vaid, M.D.

Dr. Vaid is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She is a native Texan and was raised in Houston, Texas. She attended Emory University receiving a Bachelor in Arts in Asian Studies and Sanskrit. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree and completed her pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. Dr. Vaid went on to the University of Texas Health Science Center and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for her dermatology residency, working extensively with skin cancer patients and serving as Chief Resident during her final year. She also completed clinical research in pediatric dermatology and worked in the pediatric urgent care at Northwestern University/Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She has published in several journals and textbooks in dermatology.

In her personal life, she has performed Indian classical dance throughout India and the United States and enjoys spending time with her family playing soccer, hiking, and running.

Leilei Huffman, M.D.

Dr. Huffman

Dr. Huffman is a board certified dermatologist and Northern Virginia native. She received her medical degree (M.D.) from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her dermatology training at Wayne State University in Michigan. She also holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.

Dr. Huffman is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Washington D.C. Dermatological Society.

Dr. Huffman enjoys practicing all aspects of dermatology, with an emphasis on providing compassionate patient care. She has been awarded numerous patient care and advocacy awards throughout her career. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She loves to read, travel and watch UVA basketball.

Kathryn Sowerwine, M.D.

Dr. Sowerwine is a board certified Allergist and Immunologist with a special interest in dermatological diseases. Dr. Sowerwine has 5 years of experience in the dermatology field as she has been managing complicated dermatitis cases, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), contact dermatitis, performing skin checks, rosacea, acne, hair loss, cosmetics and much more. She completed her clinical and research fellowship in allergy and immunology at the prestigious National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. She is a published author and has presented at national conferences.

Prior to her work at the NIH, Dr. Sowerwine completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital and went on to become a member of the medical staff. Dr. Sowerwine continues to stay current in her area of expertise by attending both national dermatology conferences as well as allergy conferences annually. Her extracurricular interests include spending time with her two children, scuba diving, and yoga. 

Kara Hoverson, M.D.

Dr. HoversonDr. Hoverson is board certified dermatologist and fellowship trained mohs surgeon. She grew up Cooperstown, ND. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a BS in Microbiology then continued at NDSU doing graduate work in Virology. There she decided to pursue a career in medicine and to serve her country. She graduated AOA from the Chicago Medical School and commissioned as a officer in the US army. She completed her Intern year at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and dermatology residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She spent a year working as a dermatologist at WRNMMC then was selected for fellowship training. She did her combined American College of Mohs surgery (ACMS) and American society for dermatologic surgery (ASDS) fellowship at Skincare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, MA. 

Amanda Malgieri, BS, MPAS, PA-C

Amanda MalgieriAmanda is a Certified Physician Assistant, with a specialization in dermatology. As an undergraduate, Amanda studied at Kenyon College and majored in Biochemistry. After graduation, she pursued her career by attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

Amanda has always had an interest in dermatology, particularly after working at a dermatology office during college as a medical assistant. She enjoys seeing a wide range of patients and treating a variety of skin conditions. Amanda specializes in all aspects of dermatology, from treating acne to diagnosing and treating skin cancers. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, running and watching sports.

As the Renewal MedSpa Director, Amanda is a vital part of the Renewal Dermatology family and is eager to meet and treat all of her patients.

Lori Doyle, PA-C

Lori DoyleLori is a dedicated and friendly Physician Assistant who is a Virginia native, growing up in nearby Alexandria. She graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina with a B.S. in Biology, and then returned home to pursue a career in medicine. For over two years she worked as a medical assistant in a Washington D.C. Dermatology practice, where she gained invaluable experience and discovered her true passion for dermatology. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

Lori's areas of interest include both general and cosmetic dermatology, treating patients of all ages. She is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine and Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, as well as the society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, cooking, and attending Washington Nationals games with her family and friends. Lori is excited to be a part of the Renewal Dermatology team and looks forward to meeting all of the patients.

Jentry Parafinczuk, BS, MCMSc, PA-C

Jentry graduated from Barry University in Miami, Florida with her Bachelor of Science degree in 2007. She returned to Barry to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. In 2012, she graduated as a certified Physician Assistant with her Master of Clinical Medical Science degree.

Jentry began her career in dermatology at a very well-known practice in Miami, Florida from 2012-2014. It was here she gained invaluable experience and knowledge in the field to prepare her for a successful career. She then moved to Virginia Beach and practiced with a large dermatology group, expanding her knowledge base and affirming her love of dermatology.

Jentry enjoys every facet of dermatology. From her original love of general dermatology including acne and skin cancer to her developing affinity for cosmetic products and procedures. Her areas of expertise encompass the field in its entirety.

Jentry enjoys her family, friends and food. She frequently enjoys the outdoors with her husband, son and two dogs (with sunscreen of course).

Nichole Thomas, PA-C

Nichole Thomas is a Physician Assistant board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She grew up in Haymarket, Virginia and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Bridewater College. She then completed her graduate work with specialized training in dermatology at Shenandoah University and received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). She regularly attends conferences hosted by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) to stay well informed on the latest dermatology treatments and procedures.

Nichole practiced general and cosmetic dermatology for the past seven years in Virginia and Maryland prior to joining Renewal Dermatology and MedSpa. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages and is experienced in treating the full spectrum of acute and chronic skin conditions. Her special interests include skin cancer prevention and screening, acne and cosmetic dermatology.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family, hiking at Shenandoah National Park, biking the Mount Vernon trail, and traveling abroad. Nichole is excited to be a part of the team and looks forward to serving the patients at Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa.

Sarah Brady, FNP-BC

Sarah SB Pictureis a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Minor in Spanish Language and Culture. Sarah's fluency in Spanish has been very helpful in her career in medicine. After graduating she spent 8 years working in the hospital setting on cardiac units. She moved to Northern Virginia in 2008. Sarah graduated with Sigma Theta Tau Honors from George Mason University with a Master of Science in Nursing. She then worked 5 years in the outpatient gastroenterology setting as a nurse practitioner. Her interest in dermatology has been strongly influenced by her father-in-law, Dr. Brady. She is enthusiastic about dermatology and is an integral part of Renewal Dermatology.

Sarah loves spending time with her family. She enjoys exercising, hiking and traveling.

Cathalene Christian, PA-C

CCpicCathalene Christian, BS, MSPAS, PA-C is a NCCPA board certified Physician Assistant who graduated with a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University after completing her Bachelors in Biology at Mary Washington College. Prior to joining Renewal Dermatology and MedSpa, Cathalene worked for 11 years as a Physician Assistant at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital Department of Plastic Surgery. She has also worked in various clinical and managerial capacities for former dermatologist, Dr. Carol Piatt.

Cat enjoys Virginia outdoors with her 2 boys, after slathering them in sunscreen and protective clothing, of course. She is always excited to discuss fillers, cosmetic treatments, skin cancer prevention, and treatment plans for acute and chronic skin conditions. Cathalene is excited to be a part of this amazing team and is excited to help you and your family members at Renewal Dermatology & MedSpa.

Mark Gibbs, FNP - BC

Mark GibbsMark is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) with a special interest in dermatologic diseases. He joined Renewal Dermatology in 2012 as a medical assistant and has continued to be with the practice ever since. He graduated with a BSN from Shenandoah University in 2015. He then worked in the ICU at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital for 4 years while also working with us as a Mohs nurse. In 2020, Mark completed a Family Nurse Practitioner Masters Degree from George Mason University. Mark specializes in skin cancer screenings, skin cancer surgery, assisting Dr. Kurt Maggio with Mohs surgeries and the management of various skin diseases.

Mark enjoys spending time off with his son, wife and dog. During his downtime, you will often find him boating or enjoying a day on the golf course.
